Is more easy to connect with something when you are familiar with it. Because it’s a feeling, that at a certain time you probably call it home. The speech of William Lyon make me experiment that. That passion that all book lover have when we read something. But the best part it’s how he describes it with situations that we are all being through. That makes the spectator familiar with it, just like I said in the beginning. But it makes it more interesting when he sounds poetic but at the same time like he’s telling a joke; because of the way he describes the borrowed books.

Later on, he continues talking about how it is to have books and how the sensation is. How in some way books are your friends, friends that are always going to be with you no matter the circumstances. So as friends, you shouldn’t keep them away. And even though he didn’t use statistics you know it’s true… not just because you are familiar, but because of the way he expresing everything with a lot of details. Details that you know cannot be a makeover. Where each detail leads in some way to another, making feel everything smooth without ruining the logic between words and paragraphs.

An example could be when he says “...and then in later years, is like visiting a forest where you once blazed a trail. You have the pleasure of going over the old ground, and recalling both the intellectual scenery and your own earlier self. Everyone should begin collecting a private library in youth;…” You can notice how in a certain way he finishes talking about that subtheme to later on continue talking about the other, but he manages to make smooth and easy to go along without getting lost in.

Another thing that he uses to make people understand what he is talking about is using metaphors and symbolisms. Metaphor is a way that authors use to express their feelings. Because some things are simply indescribable. So using metaphor and symbolism is easier to make others understand how strong and magnificent it is.

However, all great speeches have to come to an end, because if it’s too long people might get bored and they are not going to give you attention. But, this speech stays concise with what he wants it to say without leaving any doubts. Which is going to make it memorable because I personally never heard someone explain their passion for the books in that way. Even make the spectator want to grab a book and start reading it.

Second speech: Should cars fly?

This speech left me having a lot of questions and doubts. Because if their is more air traffic that would be a chaotic, for a lot of reasons. Being the worst part, the accidents as she said. However, I think that is the magic of speeches, the fact that you somehow impact the listening inspiring them to question themself and think more about the topic.

Fourth speech: Nature vs Nuture?

When this person start I thought I would be the usual speech of “how friendships influenced you”, just like the typic debate of teens vs adults. But it wasn’t, instead she said is your decision; you can be whatever or whoever you want, it is your choices. Which left me thinking a lot. Because this can be interpreted as something obvious and logic. However, for certain people isn’t and that’s why people judge others base of their friends.

Sixth speech: Should we normalized bad word?

Everything has a time and a places, which include bad words. Like when you are with someone that its uncomfortable with this type of language or if you are in a place that is very formal just talk in a proper way. So I did agree with her and make me question if sometimes we complain without a solid base.

Nineth speech: How impressionable people are?

I really love how she use her personal life to express herself in a better way so it could be more understandable. But, it’s truth that sometimes people judge others based on their outfit/look; which is not correct. Just like she said, people think that because a person work on a fast food is a person without future, which is not true.

Fourteen speech: Its life outer space?

I do agree with her, their is life in others planets just maybe their aren’t as develop as we are. Because, it ha being comprobate that in other planet its bacterial life and others things. That maybe if they evolve they can be animals or something. And also recently NASA confirm OVNIS so it cannot be impossible life in others planets in others forms.

Skills:

They all did great, they did a good speaking, had a good body language, great posture etc. Which make this speeches even more powerful, because of the way they express themself.

So in todays class the teacher make us stand up and present a impro we’re the topic it was “imagine that you are trying to be in a club and you are presenting yourself”. Where honestly I didn’t have much idea of what to say or do. However, we had to listen our classmate and write down in what they can be better. So here are my observations…

Speaker 6:

This person was very confident in what they say so that can really convince the person to get them on their team. Where also the main idea was very understandable and concrete. Honestly, I don’t think this person have to change something.

Speaker 4:

The speaker number four sound very honest. Where, I really like the fact that they tried to join a club to improve their skills and try to be better at that. But we have to give them credit for the fact that it was humorous however didn’t left the main idea on the outside trying to be funny.

Speaker 11:

Their speech was very short so we couldn’t appreciate that much. But it sound like they can write good and new things. And also we have to highlight the fact that this person sound very enthusiastic, like they really love what they wanna to do.

Speaker 7:

This person in particular have all the skills that you need in a speech. This person was confidence, had a good posture, natural gesture, understandable, funny, dynamic etc. So I had to say that I really enjoy their speech and I would accept her.

Speaker 1:

This person was the first impro, which mean no time to think or to relax themself and however they did a good job. They were enthusiastic, good posture and good manage of gesture. It was easy to understand and had a really interesting main idea.

Originally books were made to share knowledge and for people to learn. Later on, it was made for fun. Nowadays they exist for all sources; being my favorite the ones that make the person grow. And it doesnt need to be a book that specifically says how to grow and even gives you some steps. But the kind of book that shows a story along with a lesson. Just like Five people you meet in heaven. Story that tells you about Eddie’s life and death and how was his journey there. This book made me reflect a lot…

I think that most readers are going to extract from this book to start appreciating more each person that they meet. Even though they were small talk. Another thing that they are going to extract is to start hearing other people’s stories and learn from them. And honestly this really had to do with how he wrote the things. Because even though it has a lot of details it doesn’t get boring. On the contrary, it makes you analized more.

Where they prove you that time is relatively, which is shown when in some chapters he was one age and in others he was other. Which we cannot specifically apply in our life. But we can take it as that time is never going to stop. So what are we going to do about that? And what we decide to do with it is what is going to happen with us and what is going to happen next. And later on, those moments are going to serve as knowledge and personal growth. Because time is a constant but what happens with it is what makes it so amazing.

Which makes me think about the end of this book, “the world is full of stories, but the stories are all one” this line is very deep for me. Because if you give it a thought you can see how realistic it is. Just like what happened to Eddie, some people that he met in heaven were strangers but somehow he affected their lives in a drastic way, just like us. I remember being on a fast food line with some of my friends and this woman came up and grabbed my arm. I didn’t recognized at all. And when she noticed she started presenting herself, but still, I couldn’t recognize her. I just pretend. But somehow I changed her life and did some good for her. It has been a long time, and I still don’t know how was her, but she did have an effect on me. And that’s the issue, that we are not alone even if we feel like it. We are constantly affecting others, just like a Domino effect.

Most of the time people say to us, “forget about people, they are not going to remember you when you die… that’s only going to happen if you are famous”. And for a long time I thought it was true. And surprisingly this book made me see it from another perspective. Because Eddie wasn’t a famous person, he was just another one that could be replaced easily. But he still has an effect on others. Like the Ruby Pier it was once again full of people, some machines had a name changed and a little girl had the opportunity to have a beautiful life. All this and more from a person that wasn’t famous at all and still being remembered.

– Have you experienced an act that you thought was very simple but it connects you to others in a deep way? 

– Yes, it has happened to me. I remember being on a catecismo, and the teacher said to me, go where the ostia is and pray. So I did, there it was this girl crying and at first instant I said, “wow she really connected herself with Jesus, sensational”. So I concentrated on my prayer and when I finished it, she continued crying, like she never stopped. So I hugged her and asked her what happened and if she wanted to talk about it. So she did, and that simple act, like the fact that I hugged her and cared about her, made us friends for a long time. And actually what made us “stop being friends” was that I didn’t have her number, because I didn’t have a phone so I totally lost contact. 

I have always been a person that likes to be on all kinds of things. This can vary on parties, open houses, clubs, ceremonies, decorations etc. Sometimes it can be funny how I like to be on all kinds of things but I’m a very introverted person. So this can be a very interesting game. The thing is that I’m part of the student council and our job is to support other clubs. So there was a math competition where we had to go. And I thought I would simply pass the paper, which is not a bad job. It’s just I want something more, I want something more big. And I remember talking with this friend, the weekend before the competition, and telling him “I wish I could do more” . He told me that every job it’s important, just do what you do better. And of course I knew that, but somehow it made me feel more relaxed about it.

The week started, and I was at a reunion where they told me “you are going to serve the judges” . I was so happy and glad that they trusted me that much. So the days passed quickly and the competition came. I was nervous because it was something big, they were the one of the most imprescindible people in that room. But something happened, and fortunately we resolved and they still had a smile on their face, thanks to us. And everytime that I had to pass an exercise with my buddy it was a great feeling. Because we were the ones that organized each exercise and counted each group. Meanwhile, make the judge feel comfortable and give it drinks and food.
At some point they were late on the corrections, which is pretty understandable and we had to organize their table. Things that make me feel important. And I know it sounds silly, like it was just a table. But those little details that make the person feel more comfortable in their space was what made the big difference. Because the exercise didn’t have the number on top so if the paper mix, it would be a big trouble. And it had a big possibility that it would happen and it didn’t because of my buddy and me. The launch time came which meant that competition ended and it was about time to say the winners. And I still remember their order… However we gave it to them and they enjoyed it. The winners were revealed and we gave them a gift and a cup. And for me it was a very simple gift. But somehow for them it was super big. The competition ends, and everyone goes, and before they go, they tell us how pleased they were and how they wish to see us again. And honestly that was a great experience for me, for a lot of reasons.

Being the principle that I’m very shy, when I don’t know the person, and that did not limit me. On the contrary I tried to leave that outside and gave them the best experience that they could have in a competition. And you know the most incredible thing, that I think this was their first competition. So just like me, they challegence themselves and had an experience that they are never going to forget. And also, this experience gave me the opportunity to meet an incredible person who was my buddy. Honestly I would know him if it wasn’t for this competition. So I’m very glad that I have that opportunity and without any thought I would do it again. Even if that means to have a whole day with pain on my feet because of how long I had to stand up.

A lot of people have a terrible fear of ending cycles, including death. And even so, most of them don’t fully enjoy their lives. That’s why I prefer not to think much about it. Because first of all, I don’t know how, when or where I’m going to die and if it is going to be painful or not. And even though, while i’m writing this essay I’m thinking, how is it going to be? Me, as well, think that “heaven is a mind state that is going to be built based on my life choices and experiences”. Being the difference that I think of all my family members, my deities and persons that are important in my life are going to be in heaven, just like COCO the movie. But if I only have to choose five people they will be: my dad, my grand – grandmother, my deity, my mom and my brothers and sisters.

I would like to meet my parents, which include my step mom, step father, my mom and my father. Even if sometimes it can be uncomfortable it would be a nice experience. Because all of them have very good and positive qualities. Where some of them would be: patient, goodnes, charisma, fury, hard working people, knowledge etc. Which make them very good people, but it’s not a secret that the majority of divorces end up pretty bad. Which makes you think that your situation is never going to be well. Where all that would make me realize “expect the unexpected”. Like, who think that all of them are going to get along, no one. But there they are, being good pals. Things that make me feel proud about how mature they are. So of course I would like to have that kind of energy in heaven. It would be a gift for me.

Another person that I would like to meet would be my great-grandmother. Because she was an extraordinary person even though she made big mistakes. Basically I would like to know more about her and her thought process. Because even if she’s not here physically she still is an important person in my family. So she inspired me and intrigued me a lot.

The next person that I would like to meet would be my deity. A deity is a guide (in a spiritual form) that is with you all your life. I would like to ask them the basic things (their story, why they choose etc). But also I would like to meet them because I know they are going to teach me valuable things that I forgot during my life. That would teach me to value the person and the things that happen to me. Because even the worst times are the ones that make me go to the point that I am going to be before I die.

Also I would like to meet my close friends that technically I consider them family. Because they are the people that help me go through a lot of different situations. And without them I wouldn’t be me. Also they have taught me what it is like to have a lot of fun without getting any harm. Which can sound like a cliche, but also they teach me about loyalty, because your family is always going to be there no matter what, but a friend no. They can leave whenever they want, and that’s okay. But they haven’t and they are still there for me.

The last person would be my brothers because I think they are the people that I love the most. They are the ones that always are with me no matter what. And even if sometimes we lost contact because of how busy we are, when we re-contact it is like nothing happened and I really love that. Like having them right after that I die would be the most amazing thing that would happen. Because death it’s a traumatic moment no matter what, and having them would comfort me.

For me, heaven is a place that represents goodness, purity etc and even so, here on earth, is a place that causes a lot of conflict between humans. So I think that the simple fact that

I’m there is a big lesson. It means that I did treat people well and that I did forgive them. So there would be a personal growth that I couldn’t finish without my family. Each of the people that I mentioned have taught me different things along my life such as: forgiveness, curiosity, conserved memories, loyalty and eternal love. And I think those are lessons that are very important in heaven. And if I have to guess what the next ones would be: love has limits and being too good can end really bad.
